BSSEC has supported Wellington School throughout its ESOS journey, acting as the appointed ESOS Lead Assessor for both ESOS Phase III and Phase IV.

During ESOS Phase III, BSSEC undertook comprehensive energy audits across the school’s buildings and transport operations, prepared the ESOS Evidence Pack, provided Lead Assessor sign-off and supported the successful compliance submission to the Environment Agency. The assessment identified a range of energy efficiency opportunities, including LED lighting upgrades, boiler replacements, heating and boiler control optimisation, sub-metering, building insulation improvements, electric vehicle adoption and behavioural energy management initiatives.

Following completion of the assessment, BSSEC developed a prioritised implementation action plan and has continued to provide annual implementation reviews, helping the school monitor progress, review completed projects and identify further opportunities for improvement.

Building on this successful partnership, BSSEC has now commenced ESOS Phase IV, undertaking updated energy audits across the school’s buildings, transport activities and operational processes in accordance with the latest ESOS requirements. In addition to Total Energy Consumption (TEC) and Significant Energy Consumption (SEC) analysis, BSSEC is supporting the school with its new Energy Governance & Implementation Assessment, helping to strengthen executive oversight, investment planning, project prioritisation and the long-term implementation of energy efficiency and decarbonisation opportunities.

By combining technical energy audits with practical implementation planning and governance support, BSSEC is helping Wellington School move beyond compliance towards a structured programme of continual energy improvement, reduced operating costs and long-term sustainability.
