Monitoring & Targeting

Objectives

Westbury Dairies is one of the most energy efficient dairies in Europe, consuming 43.5% less than a typical dairy.  Having set even higher goals, an energy review of existing metering, monitoring and targeting arrangements was to be undertaken to provide recommendations for the use of automated monitoring and targeting systems, in order to meet the internal targets.

Delivery

In undertaking the review, b:ssec highlighted the main area for attention was the energy management system. A general review of energy use with service infrastructure, process plant and site operation was undertaken to identify, and prioritise potential energy savings. Furthermore, b:ssec provided an energy management review of the dairies’ energy management practice encompassing 10 energy saving recommendations.

Results

The monitoring and targeting review highlighted that close to 800 tonnes of CO2 could be saved per annum saving approximately £75k by updating the building management system.  The energy management review gave an annual saving in the range of 5k tonnes of CO2 and £500k if the 10 energy saving recommendations were followed. Both strategies requiring less than a year as a financial payback.
