Corporate Carbon Management

Objectives

A Carbon Management programme with potential to roll out across a multi-national business group was required. Gaps with communications, methodology, and implementation were identified within the organisation. The first priority was to establish a Carbon Management strategy followed by the implementation of the 3 phase Carbon Management programme identified in the scoping study.

Delivery

A Carbon Management workshop was developed and held with key service areas in attendance. This highlighted the importance of, and the challenges facing, each service area in addition to the culture within the organisation as a whole. The ensuing scoping report outlined Phase I, II and III of the recommended Carbon Management programme. Phase I took the form of a Carbon Trust Carbon Management Project. Phase II focused on Project emissions by producing a set of  design, construction and operation procedure. Phase III developed a Project Carbon  Management Manual.

Results

A 45 point action plan was developed and subdivided into five key business areas: Organisation, Culture/Behaviour, Fleet and Plant, Sites and Buildings. The 45 point action plan is projected to lead to CO2 savings of around 15k tonnes. Long term targets and key performance indicators were set to guide the company in achieving a leading market position in carbon management.

Key Points:

  • Three year project to produce a corporate strategy for a complex project on a global level.
